This is a legitimate, senior-level role. This person will manage a team and spend a lot of time working on strategy. We're excited about it because high-level roles like this aren't available all that often. Also, Docsend has proven its commitment to content marketing. Alex attributes a lot of their recent growth to great content execution and the company is furthering that investment with this role (along with the new content manager role).
Here are three things that really stand out about this role:
- A proven content marketing track record. There is a big difference between working at a company that dabbles in content versus one that has already proven content drives growth. Docsend is one of the latter, which means that you won't need to beg for resources or time. Docsend has an established, successful content program. The CEO is there to open doors and make intros. The VP of Marketing considers content to one of the company's three pillars of growth (discussed in the video above). If you want a real content culture, Docsend has it.
- An existing team plus room to grow. As Alex mentioned, Docsend has already developed a content playbook for its startup fundraising vertical. The new content marketing manager will execute that playbook and the director will establish new ones. The product is quite flexible, so there's room to be creative even though this role will demand an analytical person. As Docsend establishes playbooks in more verticals, there will be room to hire folks to run those playbooks.
- A real commitment to data. Docsend has created a data warehouse that the marketing team uses to find insights and supporting evidence for content and other marketing materials. You ask the right questions and the business intelligence team can find the answers.
This is the real deal—a senior-level role and venture-backed and fast-growing company.
Docsend is a secure way to send files. Companies use it to send pitch decks, sales assets, financial info and so much more. It has raised ~$15 million and has about 15,000 customers. It relies entirely on inbound marketing and is cash-flow positive.
As Alex mentioned, the company has been growing like crazy lately. It's one of those businesses that has benefitted from so many companies working remotely. Make sure to look at their careers page to learn more about the culture and benefits.
If you're ~10 or more years into your career and have director-level chops, you need to seriously consider this role. You'll work with a great team to market a great product. Folks with less experience should consider the content marketing manager role.
